Part Time Marketing Coordinator

Summary

This role is designed to support primarily online marketing efforts for a founder-based small startup focused primarily on the launch of a new book, email list building, content marketing, and online course and membership sales.

A Day In The Life

Your typical week might include tasks like:

  • Loading email copy into Kit (formerly ConvertKit) and for email broadcasts

  • Working on creating email automations using tags and workflows as part of the lead nurture and conversion or retention funnels.

  • Meeting with the CMO to flesh out project plans for campaigns and promotions

  • Reviewing drafts of articles and social content from the founder

  • Posting articles on the (soon to be) Wordpress site at least bi-weekly

  • Creating IG carousels to promote new content and the course

  • Supporting the founder with tasks related to the launch of her new book, and participating in the book marketing plan execution.

  • Minor updates and changes to the website including copy, images, embedding forms, catching typos, creating opt in, sales, checkout, download, and, thank you pages..

  • Writing derivative marketing copy, editing or creating graphic, basic video editing

  • This is a part time position for an independent contractor.

  • The amount of work will depend on the candidate’s experience and skills, but is estimated at between 10-20 hours per week.

  • You  must be available to work mostly between 10am-5pm Eastern US time so that you are available for team and project meetings and collaboration during regular ET work hours.

30 day outcomes

  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and to the quality of your work.

  • Demonstrate a high level of resourcefulness in finding answers and solving problems on your own and asking for constructive feedback.

  • Be comfortable with accessing and using all our tech platforms including Kit (ConvertKit), Wordpress, Canva, Google Drive, Asana, Slack, Typeform, Riverside, and others.

  • Be totally up to speed on the Brand and Marketing strategy documentation, the current marketing plan and all active marketing projects in Asana.

  • Be familiar with the mission/vision, products, systems, and team members.

  • Have a draft of your own daily and weekly work checklist, and a reliable schedule of your working hours.

  • Based on 30 days experience, be ready to provide at least one idea for improving or streamlining the way you accomplish the work delegated to you.

60 day outcomes

  • Take full responsibility for content marketing production.

  • Be proficient enough in all required duties that we can turn a significant portion of our attention to marketing Laura’s upcoming book.

  • Consistently demonstrate autonomy and assertiveness in proactively managing your own work and time and staying clear and focused on high priorities.

  • Develop enough familiarity with the brand voice to write incidental/derivative copy.

  • Suggest at least three more improvements via using better systems, or better tools - including the use of AI and AI-based tools and platforms.


Key Responsibilities

As the Marketing Coordinator, you will be responsible for assisting in the execution of marketing and sales related projects and tasks including:

  • Content Production Support 

    • Supervise production, scheduling and publication of content marketing including articles, emails, and social post content production system in Asana

  • Email Production Support

    •  Use Kit (ConvertKit) to design and send emails, set up and maintain email funnels, manage tagging systems, and publish newsletters 

  • Social Media Production Support

    • Schedule and publish and potentially even moderate posts on social media platforms and generate performance reports.

  • Campaigns and Promotions Support 

    • Support in executing launches, promotions, sales, virtual events, webinars, etc

    • Support in any paid advertising we may do

    • Support our efforts to generate new traffic from referrals, organic traffic, social traffic, paid traffic, etc

  • Basic Website Support

    • Publish articles and other web content and update HTML pages on website 

  • Some Simple Copywriting

    • Write occasional, ongoing marketing and sales copy based on the branding guide document and other strategic documents, including emails, webpages, flyers, etc.

    • Be familiar with marketing copywriting best practices so you can provide proactive feedback to content contributors on the team to make their content optimized for engagement - including email subject lines, formatting for article and email engagement, and hooks and CTAs, etc.

  • Some Basic Creative work

    • The ideal candidate will have solid basic graphics and video editing skills for basic projects that are too small or not complex enough to outsource

    • Excellent writing skills and the ability to write incidental copy like logistical emails, web page copy, retention emails, copy in the product portal / community, etc.

Possible Operational Support

Beyond the core areas listed above, and depending on experience and bandwidth, here are the other areas of work you may be asked to participate in. 

  • Research Projects:

    • Assisting with marketing and content related research projects as needed, providing support, problem-solving, research, and planning. (This might include anything from competitor and audience research, to article citation research, to researching new marketing tools and tactics.)

  • Asset management and tracking: 

    • Participate in organizing and managing all marketing assets associated with LD.com and ensure they are properly named, templated, and organized in Google Drive 

  • Building out organization SOP documentation:

    • Create and keep updated various SOPs related to your work

  • Research and devise intelligent uses for AI tools to improve speed and productivity without sacrificing quality of work.


REQUIRED

  • A fairly strong grasp of the basic principles of digital marketing, for example:

    • Audience and List building, lead generation and lead capture

    • Automated marketing funnels, lead nurture, and email sequences

    • Conversion design: opt-in pages, sales landing pages, and check-out pages 

    • Customer onboarding and retention, upselling and downselling

    • Foundational principles of CRO, SEM, SEO

    • Affiliate programs and affiliate marketing

    • Passive online products: Downloads, memberships and courses, etc

  • Proficiency in:

    • Kit (ConvertKit): (must be familiar with tagging, automation, and reporting)

    • Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter/X

    • Google Suite /Drive (esp. Google Docs and Sheets)

  • Proficiency in, or enough deep expertise in similar platforms to quickly master:

    • Canva, Buffer

    • Asana, Slack, Zoom

  • Basic skills in graphic design, print, and video (you will not be responsible for all design and video production, necessarily, but will need to potentially make changes to existing projects and/or check the work of creative freelancers we hire.

    • Basic Photoshop skills

    • Basic video editing using something like Final Cut

    • Basic layout design using something like Illustrator

    • Familiarity with AI design tools is a plus, but not required.

  • Solid writing skills, generally, but also a basic understanding of how sales and marketing copy, and writing for the web, differ from other forms of writing.

  • A growing interest in and aptitude for learning, testing and finding ways to use new AI tools as they are launched, and the built in AI tools of existing platforms.

Optional/desirable (not required, but a big plus)

  • Personal experience in the alternative/holistic/functional mental health industry

  • Project management experience

  • More advanced skills in copywriting, video editing and/or graphic design

This job is for a person who:

  • Is self-motivated, efficient and resourceful (great at managing own time)

  • Excels at estimating time and workload and knowing when to surface potential problems

  • Knows how to batch their work so that their interactions with the founder are organized and streamlined, leaving her free from frequent interruption.

  • Can handle us dumping all kinds of information and to-do items on you and then prioritizing, organizing, and planning your own workflow and asking for help or clarity

  • Is very comfortable working with a founder who is obsessively detail-oriented; your nature is to double-check all the details (name-spelling, correct URLs, consistency across images on an Instagram carousel, etc)

  • Has professional, clear, concise oral and written communication skills, and is a natural proofreader—a stickler for proper grammar and spelling

  • Is the one who finds answers, not relies on others to give them answers.

  • Is emotionally mature and grounded, doesn’t take things personally, diplomatic and tactful (there will be many unhinged emails from people!) 

  • Is tech savvy—already knows lots about lots of online platforms/tools and can easily teach yourself about unfamiliar ones 

  • Doesn’t think in black-and-white extremes; understands the complexities that come with being alive and working, etc

  • Is always looking for ways to do less work by automating, streamlining, creating templates, using better tools, etc.

  • This is a part time position for an independent contractor.

  • Compensation is competitive and in the average range for “marketing coordinator” or “marketing assistant” positions in the U.S.

  • The exact compensation will vary and is negotiable based on your level of experience and how we end up finalizing the scope of the role based on the candidates available. This is not a “manager” or “director” level position.
